The fun Frankenstein cupcakes are a cute halloween treat to bring to a halloween party. They're easy to make and you can also get the kids involved with helping out since they're easy to decorate.
We've made the chocolate cupcakes from scratch, but you could easily substitute a chocolate cake mix instead.
The same for the green frosting! You could buy a tub of frosting and add green food coloring to it in a pinch.
Ingredients & Substitutions for these easy halloween cupcakes
These halloween treats are made with simple ingredients that you should always be able to find in the grocery store. If not, you can check out a store like Michaels, Walmart or a Hobby Lobby in the baking section.

- All purpose flour
- cocoa powder
- baking soda
- baking powder
- unsalted butter
- granulated sugar
- large eggs
- milk - you can use whole milk or whatever you have on hand.
- vanilla extract - for best flavor, I recommend using pure vanilla extract but artificial will be okay as well.
FROSTING INGREDIENTS
- unsalted butter
- powdered sugar
- green food coloring
- candy eyeballs
- chocolate sprinkles
- black decorating gel (sold in a tube)
STEP ONE - Preheat oven to 350°F. Add cupcake liners to a 12-serving cupcake pan and set aside.
STEP TWO - In a medium bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda and cocoa powder. Set aside.
STEP THREE - In a small bowl, combine vanilla extract and milk. Set aside.
STEP FOUR - In a large mixing bowl, on medium speed beat butter until creamy.
STEP FIVE - Add granulated sugar and mix until well combined.
STEP SIX - Add in the eggs and beat until smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula to ensure all ingredients are well combined.
STEP SEVEN - With mixer set to LOW speed, gradually addin the dry ingredients, alternately with the milk & vailla mixture until combined.
Increase speed to medium and mix until smooth and fluffy.
STEP EIGHT - Use a large spoon to divide the batter evenly into the prepared cupcake pan, filling to about ¾ full.
STEP NINE - Bake in 350°F preheated oven for 16 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
STEP 10 - Place each cupcake on a wire rack.
MAKE THE FROSTING:
STEP ONE - Add butter and powdered sugar to the bowl and an electric mixer and mixer until combined. (If mixture seems too dry, a splash of milk can be added to moisten). Bean until fluffy.
STEP TWO - Add green food coloring until desired shade of green reached.
STEP THREE - Add frosting to a piping bag fitted with a large piping tip (round cupcake tip), and swirl on frosting.
STEP FOUR - Dip top of frosting into the chocolate sprinkles for Frakenstein's hair.
