- Perfect for any meal: Serve them with soups, stews and Sunday dinners or add them to your Thanksgiving and Christmas table.
- Make-ahead friendly: The rolls can be prepared ahead, making homemade bread easier when you’re planning a big meal.
Ingredients You’ll Need

- ¾ cup warm buttermilk (about 110°F)
- ¼ cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 3¼ to 3½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons melted butter, for brushing
Step By Step Intructions

STEP ONE – In a large mixing bowl, stir together the warm buttermilk, warm water, sugar and yeast. Let the mixture stand for 5 to 10 minutes, until the yeast becomes foamy.
STEP TWO – Add the melted butter, salt, egg and 3 cups of the flour. Mix until a soft dough begins to form. Gradually add additional flour, about 1 tablespoon at a time, as needed until the dough is soft and manageable.

STEP THREE – Transfer the dough to a lightly floured work surface and knead for 8 to 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, knead the dough in a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook for 5 to 6 minutes.
STEP FOUR – Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel. Set it in a warm place and allow the dough to rise for 1 to 1½ hours, or until doubled in size.
STEP FIVE – Gently punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Shape each portion into a smooth ball and arrange the rolls in a greased 9 × 13-inch baking dish.
STEP SIX – Cover the baking dish and let the rolls rise for another 30 to 45 minutes, until noticeably puffy.
STEP SEVEN – Preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake the rolls for 18 to 22 minutes, until the tops are golden brown.
STEP EIGHT – Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush the tops with melted butter. Allow them to cool slightly before serving.
