  • Pasta – rotini, fusilli, penne, or rigatoni pasta
  • Butter – unsalted
  • Chicken – 1 pound of boneless, skinless chicken tenderloins cubed
  • Salt and Pepper – Kosher salt and black pepper
  • Garlic Cloves – minced
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Oregano – dried oregano
  • Garlic Powder
  • Red Pepper Flakes
  • All Purpose Flour
  • Chicken Broth
  • Heavy Cream
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Cream Cheese – at room temperature
  • Nutmeg
  • Parsley – chopped, optional colorful garnish on top with extra red pepper flakes

Handy tip:

Make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature so that is does not curdle!!

Substitutions and additions

You can use any gluten-free products in place of any of the ingredients.

Use your favourite sturdy shaped pasta or vegetables that can hold onto the cream sauce.

How to make chicken garlic parmesan pasta recipe

STEP ONE – Cook the pasta according to the directions, which takes 9 minutes. While the pasta is cooking move forward with the recipe. 

STEP TWO – In a large saute pan add 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Allow the butter to get hot, which will take 1-2 minutes. Do not let the butter get brown.

STEP THREE – Add the chicken, salt, and pepper to the saute pan over medium heat. Mix until the chicken is fully coated in the salt and pepper. 

STEP FOUR – Cook one side of the chicken for 3-4 minutes. Flip the chicken over and cook for an additional 3 minutes or until the juices run clear. You want an internal temperature of 165° F.  Transfer the chicken to a plate. 

STEP FIVE – To the saute pan add 3 tablespoons of butter, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, oregano, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes. Stir for 1 minute.

STEP FIVE – Add the flour. Stir for 1 minute.

STEP SIX – Add the chicken broth. Stir for 1 minute or until thick. 

STEP SEVEN – Add the heavy cream, parmesan cheese, cream cheese, and nutmeg. Mix for 1-2 minutes or until the sauce is thick.

STEP EIGHT – Taste to see if more salt and pepper is needed.

STEP NINE – Add the pasta and chicken to the sauté pan and mix until everything is coated.

STEP TEN – Sprinkle parsley and red pepper flakes on top. (optional)

Variations

You can make this with a jar of store bought Alfredo sauce for a quick and easy last minute dinner.

Kick up the spices with chili flakes or cayenne pepper for more added heat.

  • Use heavy cream for the best rich and creamy sauce
  • If you like a thinner sauce you can add more chicken stock at the end to thin it out
  • Your pasta should be cooked according to the directions until al dente
  • Cook the chicken until it reaches a safe internal temperature of 165°F
  • For added fresh flavor and seasoning garnish with parsley and red pepper flakes

Storage and reheating instructions

Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the fridge.

To reheat in a sauce pan over a medium heat on the stove you can add a bit of water or chicken stock to help bring the sauce back together.

Or reheat a single serving using a microwave safe dish with 30 second intervals in the microwave until heated through.

Ingredients

10 ounces pasta

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided

1 pound boneless skinless chicken, tenderloins, cubed

1/4 teaspoon coarse kosher salt, divided

1/4 teaspoon black pepper, divided

4 garlic cloves, minced

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

1/2 cup chicken broth

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup parmesan cheese

4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature

1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

2 tablespoons parsley, chopped
