We enjoyed this garlicky bread the other night when we had Cheesy Taco Pasta Bake for dinner. The kids love any type of cheesy bread but this stuffed cheesy garlic bread recipe is their favorite.
It's the perfect side for pasta, or as an appetizer dipped in marinara sauce. Is the really anything better than melty cheese?
Ingredients
- Italian or French loaf of bread
- Butter - should be at room temperature but not too soft. If it's a hot day, set it in a cooler spot as it comes to room temperature.
- Olive oil - good quality extra virgin olive oil is best for flavor.
- Fresh garlic
- Italian Seasoning
- Mozzarella cheese, sliced - buy the fresh mozzarella that is in the shape of a ball and either packed in liquid or vacuum packed, not the pre-sliced cheese.
- Fresh Parmesan cheese, grated
Step by Step Instructions

Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
In a small bowl, combine butter, olive oil, Italian seasoning, minced garlic and ¼ cup of freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Stir until it is well mixed.
Use a sharp, serrated knife to cut 1 and ½-inch thick slices of the bread, not cutting all of the way through to the bottom of the loaf. Place loaf on foil-lined baking sheet.
Reserve 1 Tablespoon of the prepared garlic butter, and spread the remaining garlic butter on each side of the pre-sliced bread with a butter knife.
Place one to two slices of sliced mozzarella cheese between each slice of bread.
Use a pastry brush to brush the remaining garlic butter all over the bread and top with remaining shredded Parmesan cheese.
Cook in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Cheese should be melted and bread will be crusty and a nice golden brown color.

OMG This was wonderful! I made my own bread, than froze half of it for later. I used a little less than half a stick of butter, and maybe a little less Parmesan. It was so delicious right out of the oven, but the next morning I sliced a piece, added another slice of Mozzarella, reheated it, and then added broccoli sprouts and a couple of slices of tomato for breakfast. A keeper for sure!
