Ingredients You’ll Need

- 1 Tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large green bell pepper, cut into thin strips
- 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
- 2 14-ounce packages shaved steak
- 1 Tablespoon Steak seasoning (*see notes)
- 1 (12-count) package of Hawaiian rolls, slider rolls, or dinner rolls (see notes)
- 8 slices provolone or Mozzarella cheese
- Topping for the sliders:
- 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Garnish:
- 1 Tablespoon chopped Parsley or chives
Step By Step Instructions

STEP ONE – Preheat the oven to 350°F.
STEP TWO – Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced green pepper and onion and cook for 5 to 6 minutes, or until softened. Transfer the vegetables to a plate or bowl and set aside.
STEP THREE – Add the shaved steak and steak seasoning to the skillet. Cook over medium-high heat for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the steak is cooked through.

STEP FOUR – Using a long serrated knife, slice the rolls horizontally, separating the tops from the bottoms while keeping each half intact. Place the bottom half of the rolls in a 9×13-inch baking dish and set the top half aside.
STEP FIVE – Layer the cooked shaved steak evenly over the bottom half of the rolls. Top with the cooked peppers and onions, followed by the Provolone cheese. Place the top half of the rolls over the cheese, lining them up with the bottom sliders.

STEP SIX -In a small bowl, stir together the melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Brush the butter mixture evenly over the tops of the rolls, then cover the baking dish with foil.

STEP SEVEN – Bake for 25 minutes, or until the sliders are heated through and the cheese is melted. For a slightly crispier top, remove the foil during the final 5 minutes of baking.
STEP EIGHT – Sprinkle with chopped parsley or chives before serving.

Notes
- The ratio of beef depends on whether you buy the original Hawaiian rolls, which are smaller than some slider or dinner rolls on the market now. Either way, a little more beef makes for a hearty sandwich. For these photos, I used Aunt Millie’s Hawaiian Dinner Rolls. They make a large serving.
-
The shaved steak can be found in the packaged meat department of most grocery stores.
-
The amount of seasoning depends on what steak mix is being used. Some steak seasoning mixes are much more salty than others. I recommend adding about 1 Tablespoon and then tasting the steak to check the flavor.
-
Cheese Whiz or No Cheez Whiz? Cheez Whiz is a classic Philadelphia cheesesteak option, but it’s not the only authentic choice. Provolone, American, and Cheez Whiz are all commonly served on Philly cheesesteaks. I prefer provolone for these sliders because it melts well and is easier to assemble, but feel free to substitute warmed Cheez Whiz if that’s your favorite.
-
Peppers or No Peppers? Bell peppers are a popular addition to cheesesteaks, although a traditional Philadelphia cheesesteak is typically made with just steak and onions. If you prefer a more classic version or simply aren’t a fan of peppers, feel free to leave them out.
-
The foil can be removed from the pan for the last 5 minutes of the bake time if you prefer a crispier bun on top,
-
These sandwiches may be made a few hours ahead and brought to room temperature on the stove while the oven preheats.
