Ingredients You’ll Need

  • 2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 large sweet onion, halved and thinly sliced
  • 10.5 oz can French onion soup
  • 1 oz packet Lipton onion soup mix
  • ½ cup low or no sodium beef broth, or water
  • 1 cup shredded gruyere cheese
  • ½ cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • Fresh thyme, for topping

Step By Step Instructions

Sliced onions and chicken in bottom of crockpot.
Onion soup mix is sprinkled on top of the chicken.

STEP ONE – Add the sliced onions to the bottom of a 6-quart Crockpot. Arrange the chicken breasts in an even layer over the onions.

STEP TWO – Sprinkle the onion soup mix evenly over the chicken.

Chicken broth on top of chicken.

STEP THREE – Pour the French onion soup and beef broth over the chicken.

STEP FOUR – Cover and cook on LOW for 6 hours or HIGH for 3 to 4 hours, until the chicken is tender and cooked through.

Gruyere cheese is sprinkled on top of chicken breasts.

STEP FIVE – Sprinkle the Gruyere and Parmesan cheese over the chicken. Cover and cook for another 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.

STEP SIX – Spoon some of the onions and sauce over the chicken. Garnish with fresh thyme or parsley and serve.
