Description

This Crockpot French Onion Chicken has tender chicken breasts and sweet onions cooked in a rich French onion sauce, then topped with melted Gruyere and Parmesan cheese. It’s an easy comfort food dinner with just 10 minutes of prep.

Ingredients

Units
  • 2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 large sweet onion, halved and thinly sliced
  • 10.5 oz can French onion soup
  • 1 oz packet Lipton onion soup mix
  • 1/2 cup low or no sodium beef broth, or water
  • 1 cup shredded gruyere cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • Fresh thyme, for topping

Instructions

  1. Add the sliced onions to the bottom of a 6-quart Crockpot. Arrange the chicken breasts in an even layer over the onions.
  2. Sprinkle the onion soup mix evenly over the chicken.
  3. Pour the French onion soup and beef broth over the chicken.
  4. Cover and cook on LOW for 6 hours or HIGH for 3 to 4 hours, until the chicken is tender and cooked through.
  5. Sprinkle the Gruyere and Parmesan cheese over the chicken. Cover and cook for another 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
  6. Spoon some of the onions and sauce over the chicken. Garnish with fresh thyme or parsley and serve.
