FAQ’s

Can I use a store-bought crust?

Yes, a pre-made chocolate cookie crust works perfectly and saves time.

How do I know when the filling is thick enough?

It should coat the back of a spoon and begin to bubble. This usually takes about 8–10 minutes of whisking over medium heat.

What type of cocoa powder should I use?

Unsweetened natural cocoa powder or Dutch-processed both work—Dutch will give a richer, smoother chocolate flavor.

My Top Tips

  • Whisk constantly while cooking to keep the filling smooth.
  • If it turns out lumpy, strain it for a silky texture.
  • Stir in the butter and vanilla at the end for the best flavor.
  • Let the pie cool a bit before chilling to avoid condensation.
  • Chill for at least 4 hours (or overnight) so it sets nicely and slices clean.
