Slow Cooker Chicken and Dressing Recipe
Who does not love a chicken and stuffing dish for dinner, especially made in the crockpot for a convenient set-it-and-forget recipe on busy weeknights.
It is one of the best classic comfort food combinations offering a warm, filling, and satisfying meal perfect for cozy family dinners or potlucks.
Using the slow cooker ensures the chicken stays moist and tender while the stuffing absorbs the right amount of juices and seasonings from the cream of chicken soup.
I like to serve it over mashed potatoes with my green beans or best ever cranberry sauce, as they pair so well together for a dinner that tastes as good as it looks!
Ingredients
- Chicken Thighs – I used chicken thighs for extra tender meat
- Cream Of Chicken Soup – can of condensed cream of chicken with herbs soup
- Chicken Broth – store bought or use my homemade chicken broth
- Sour Cream
- Stuffing Mix – Stove Top’s Savory Herbs stuffing or your favourite store-bought stuffing
- Onion – diced
- Celery – diced
- Butter – melted
- Parsley – chopped parsley is optional for a garnish
Substitutions & Variations: You can use chicken breasts or turkey instead of chicken thighs. Cream of celery soup or cream of mushroom soup can be used if you do not have cream of chicken soup on hand. Fresh chopped vegetables like green beans or carrots, or frozen peas and carrots can be added into the cream sauce.
How To Make Chicken And Stuffing Recipe In A Slow Cooker
Step One – Place chicken thighs in an even layer inside the crockpot.
Step Two – In a large bowl, combine the condensed cream of chicken with herbs soup, chicken broth, and sour cream. Stir until well combined and then pour over the chicken breasts.
Step Three – In another bowl, combine the stuffing mix, onion, celery, and melted butter. Mix until evenly coated with butter and then spread evenly on top of the creamy chicken.
Step Four – Place the lid on the crockpot and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours or on HIGH for 3-4 hours.
Step Five – Once cooled, garnish with fresh chopped parsley. Serve over mashed potatoes and with a side of veggies like green beans. Enjoy!
Handy Tip For A Creamier Sauce!
If you prefer an extra creamy and saucier dish, you can add another can of condensed cream of chicken with herbs soup.
Storage Instructions
Once cooled, store using an airtight container in the fridge for 3 to 4 days.
