Sandra’s Top Tips
- You do not have to shred the chicken if you prefer to serve it as Mississippi whole chicken breasts
- I like to shred the chicken as I find it best for meal planning that helps the leftovers become more flavorful while it sits in the sauce and continues to soak up the flavors while not drying out
- I prefer to use a low-sodium chicken broth if you want the extra gravy as the other ingredients have sodium flavor already
- For a thicker gravy place only the gravy in a saucepan over a medium heat on the stove and adding in a mixture of 1/2 tablespoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of cold water that is mixed together. Whisk the cornstarch mixture into the gravy cooking and stirring for 5 minutes until it reaches the thickness you desire
- If you prefer a thinner gravy, mix in more broth or water using just 1 to 2 tablespoons at a time until it reaches your preferred consistency
Storage and reheating instructions
The leftovers should cool completely before you cover with the lid. To make ahead or store use an airtight container in the fridge for 3 to 4 days.
Reheat leftovers by using a pan while stirring over a medium heat on the stove, until it is heated through. Also reheat using a microwave-safe dish with 30 second intervals stirring in between until heated through.
