Ingredients
1 lb. ground breakfast sausage
(1) 8 count refrigerated biscuits
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
Pinch of red pepper flakes
2 cups whole milk
6 large eggs
1/4 cup heavy cream
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a 9×13 baking dish with nonstick spray and set aside.
- In a large skillet, cook and crumble the ground sausage until cooked through. Drain and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, heat the butter until melted.
- Whisk in the flour and cook 1-2 minutes.
- Add the salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
- Slowly add the milk, whisking as you add.
- Cook on medium heat, whisking frequently, until gravy thickens.
- Take the biscuits and cut each one into quarters. Layer these in the bottom of the 9×13.
- Take about 1/4 of the cooked crumbled sausage and stir it into the gravy.
- Sprinkle the remaining sausage over top of the biscuits.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese over top.
- In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together 6 eggs and the heavy cream.
- Pour this over top of the biscuits, sausage, and cheese.
- Finally, pour the gravy over top of everything.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, until cooked through. You can check by inserting a fork in the center and making sure the biscuit dough is cooked through.
