Description

The Best Slow Cooker Pork Carnitas, have tender, seasoned pork slow-cooked to perfection, then shredded and pan-fried to a golden crisp. They are so delicious, juicy and crispy, as well as being so easy to make with just 5 minutes prep time. Get ready to indulge in a fiesta of flavors with this authentic pork carnitas recipe that the whole family will love!


Ingredients

1 Tablespoon kosher salt

1 Tablespoon chili powder

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon dried oregano

4 to 5 pounds boneless butt or pork shoulder, cut into large chunks

64 ounces chicken broth

1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice

1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice

4 garlic cloves, minced


Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix the salt, chili, powder, pepper, cumin and oregano.
  2. Pat the pork dry with paper towels and season with the spice mixture.
  3. Place the pork, chicken broth, lime juice, orange juice and garlic in the slow cooker.
  4. Cover and cook for 6 to 8 hours on low, or 4 hours on high until the pork falls apart.
  5. Remove the meat from the slow cooker to a cutting board.  Use two forks to spread the pork apart.
  6. Transfer meat to a sheet pan and place it under the broiler for 4 to 6 minutes until the meat starts to get crispy.
  7. Serve as desired. (tacos pictured)

Notes

Storage & freezing instructions:

You can store the cooled pork in an airtight container for 4 to 5 days in the refrigerator. This is great helping with meal planning by making these ahead of time!!

You can also freeze any leftovers for up to to three months in an airtight container.
