Description
This Apple Dump Cake recipe is a super simple dessert with tender pieces of apples and a crispy cake layer on top. It’s a no fuss easy dessert that requires minimal effort to just dump and bake with no mixing bowls needed. Apple dump cake is perfect for fall or a quick and easy dessert for a BBQ or the holidays.
Ingredients
2 (21-ounce) cans apple pie filling
1 (15.25-ounce) box spice cake mix
14 tablespoons butter, cold
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Pour the two cans of apple pie filling into the bottom of a 9×13 baking dish or pan, and spread it out evenly.
- Sprinkle all of the box cake mix on top of the apple pie filling, covering the apples evenly.
- Slice the butter into 16-20 thin slices (or pats), and place them in a single layer over the cake mix.
- Bake the cake for 1 hour or until the pie filling starts to bubble around the edges and the cake is golden brown on top.
- Let the cake rest for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with ice cream, if desired.
Notes
Storage and reheating instructions:
Store in the fridge in an airtight container or covered with plastic wrap for up to 2 days as the cake layer may get too soggy after that.
Reheat the apple cake in the oven at 350°F for 20 to 30 minutes or reheat individual servings in the microwave.
You can freeze the dessert by wrapping it in plastic wrap and foil to freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and follow the reheating instructions.
