Halloween Rice Krispie Treats

Planning a halloween party with themed treats? Brighten everyone’s day with this fun and easy Halloween Rice Krispie Treats recipe loaded with pretzels and candy.


Ingredients

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter

14 ounces mini marshmallows, divided

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1/8 teaspoon salt

7 cups rice krispies cereal

1 cup Halloween M&M’s

1 cup candy corn

3/4 cup mini pretzel twists

1/4 cup sprinkles

1/4 cup green candy melts, drizzled on top


Instructions

  1. Lightly grease the bottom of a 9×13 baking pan with cooking spray and line with parchment paper. The cooking spray will help keep the parchment paper in place when pouring the Rice Krispie mixture in and will also make it easier to remove the treats when they are ready to cut.
  2. Melt the butter in a large pot over low heat.
  3. Separate 1 1/2 cups of marshmallows and set it aside to mix in later. Add the rest of the marshmallows to the pot with the melted butter and continue to melt on low heat, stirring constantly until you get a smooth consistency. 
  4. Remove the pot from the heat and then stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
  5. Fold in the Rice Krispies cereal, mini marshmallows, mini pretzel twists, M&M’s, candy corn, and sprinkles until evenly combined.
  6. Gently spread the Rice Krispies mixture into an even layer in the baking pan with a rubber spatula. Do not press it in together too firmly otherwise you will end up with hard treats.
  7. Melt the candy wafers in a piping bag on a low or defrost setting until fully melted. Massage the bag every 30 seconds to ensure even heating.
  8. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before snipping a small piece of the tip and drizzling over the prepared Rice Krispie treats. Immediately top with additional toppings such as more M&M’s, pretzels, candy corn, and sprinkles if desired.
  9. Allow it to cool on the counter for 30 minutes to 1 hour before cutting into squares. Enjoy!

Notes

These rice krispie treats are best eaten the same day but you can store leftovers in an airtight container on the counter for up to 2 days. I do not recommend refrigerating as it will harden.
