Description

This easy Apple Danish is made with flaky puff pastry, sweet apple pie filling and a simple powdered sugar glaze. Ready in less than 30 minutes, these golden pastries are perfect for a fall breakfast, weekend brunch or an easy afternoon treat with coffee.

Ingredients

Units
  • 17.3 oz box puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 21 oz apple pie filling
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line two small baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheets on a clean work surface. Cut each sheet into 6 equal rectangles to make 12 pastries.
  3. Using a butter knife, lightly score a border about ¼ to ½ inch from the edge of each puff pastry rectangle. Be careful not to cut completely through the pastry.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and 1 tablespoon of water. Brush the egg wash around the scored edges of each pastry.
  5. Spoon the apple pie filling into the center of each rectangle, keeping the filling inside the scored border.
  6. Arrange the pastries on the prepared baking sheets. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the puff pastry is risen and golden brown.
  7. While the pastries are baking, stir together the powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon of milk until smooth. Add additional milk a little at a time, if needed, until the glaze reaches a drizzling consistency.
  8. Allow the baked apple danishes to cool slightly, then drizzle the glaze over the top. Serve and enjoy.

Notes

Recipe Notes

  • Thaw the puff pastry: Make sure the puff pastry is completely thawed but still cold before working with it. If it becomes too warm or soft, refrigerate it for a few minutes before baking.
  • Don’t cut through the pastry: When scoring the border, gently mark the pastry without cutting all the way through. This helps create the raised, flaky edges.
  • Don’t overfill: Keep the apple pie filling inside the scored border so it doesn’t spill over the pastry as it bakes.
  • Keep the pastry cold: Cold puff pastry will give you the best rise and flaky texture.
  • Adjust the glaze: Start with 1 tablespoon of milk and add more a little at a time until the glaze is thin enough to drizzle.
  • Serve warm: These apple danishes are especially delicious slightly warm while the pastry is crisp and flaky.

Storage

Store leftover Apple Danish in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For the best texture, allow them to cool completely before storing.

Reheating

Reheat the danishes in a 350°F oven for about 5 to 8 minutes, or until warmed through and the pastry has crisped up again. You can also use an air fryer for a few minutes. The microwave works in a pinch, but the puff pastry will be softer rather than crisp.
