Chocolate Mousse Recipe

Description

This decadent Chocolate Mousse Recipe delivers a light but rich, silky smooth chocolate mousse texture and flavor. It makes a special indulgent chocolate dessert for the holiday season.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream (divided 1/2 cup / 2 cups)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon coarse kosher salt
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate bar, grated
  • 4 tablespoons chocolate fudge, melted

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized bowl add the chocolate chips and ½ cup of heavy whipping cream. Melt in 15-second increments. Stir until the chocolate chips are melted.
  2. Once the chocolate has melted add the vanilla extract and salt. Mix until fully combined. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl add 2 cups heavy whipping cream and the powdered sugar. With a hand mixer mix for 3-6 minutes or until thick peaks have formed.
  4. Remove ¾ cup of the whipped cream and set aside.
  5. Add the cooled chocolate to the main bowl of whipped cream.
  6. With a spatula fold the chocolate into the whipped cream until fully mixed in.
  7. Transfer the mousse to your serving dishes.
  8. Top the mousse with the ¾ cup whipped cream.
  9. Grate chocolate on top.

Notes

Make ahead: The best way to make chocolate mousse recipe ahead of time is to make it the day before. Store the mousse in the fridge overnight covered tightly with plastic wrap for the best results.

Storing leftover mousse: For best results you can store leftover chocolate mousse in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge.

Can you freeze chocolate mousse? Yes you can! You can freeze leftover mousse in a freezer-safe container without any toppings for 1 to 2 months. 

Thaw overnight in the fridge and then spoon and serve with your favorite toppings.

We do not recommend recommend using this freezing method to make this mousse recipe ahead of time, for the best results.
