In a heavy pot, cook beans for three minutes, then let stand one hour.
Add water to the beans and cook for 45 minutes.
Slice bacon and cook in skillet, just until cooked. Set aside.
In Dutch oven, add beans and all other ingredients. Bake for 2 and 1/2 hours.
Uncover and bake for another 1 and 1/2 hours.
